Updated: Jul 8, 2021

A healthy balanced diet can include mid meal snacks at morning tea, afternoon tea and supper time. It’s all about choosing the snacks that are going to provide you with benefits… not just excess calories. A little bit of preparation and organisation is all it takes. The benefits of reaching for something that is going to satisfy you between meals instead of something that is high in sugar and low in nutrients is going to be beneficial for your health and energy levels!

The more questions you can answer yes to, the better the snack:

  • Does it have LESS than 10 g of sugar per 100 g?

  • Does it have LESS than 10 g of fat per 100 g?

  • Does it have MORE than 4 g of fibre per 100 g?

  • Can you understand every ingredient on the list?

  • Does is have LESS than 120 mg of sodium (salt) per 100 g?

This section is all about snacks which you can prepare that are nutrient rich, full of vitamins, minerals and fibre to help you feel satisfied between meals and to avoid your energy levels dropping. Where possible they are snacks which use fresh ingredients readily available from your local farmers markets such as the South Fremantle Farmers Market conveniently located at South Fremantle High School every Sunday morning just around the corner from WA Health Group, Hilton. Stay tuned for recipes featuring local produce growers and suppliers!
